The City of Emporia Animal Shelter is a division of the Emporia Police Department. The Animal Shelter is staffed by one shelter manager. There is one full time animal control officer available at limited times to handle animal concerns or complaints. The Animal Shelter is currently open 5 days a week, Monday through Friday, with the exception of holidays, between the hours of 11 AM and 2 PM. The shelter is not affiliated with any other animal advocacy group or organization. The operations of the shelter are funded by city tax dollars and donations specifically from businesses, groups and individuals such as the Buck Fund for the animal shelter. Appointments to view adoptable annimals are strongly suggested due to the high volume of calls for animal control received.

Any monetary donations will be accepted and used to help ensure the comfort and well-being of our animals as well as the purchasing of vaccinations for all cats and dogs. Donations of pet care supplies, towels, blankets, pet foods, treats and toys are greatly appreciated. Donations may be received at the animal shelter or the police department. Checks should be made payable to the "City of Emporia Animal Shelter." We are currently seeking donations for funding that will cover the costs of spay and neutering of adoptable animals.
